After the arrest of Arnab Goswami, some people are worried about the rights of journalism and freedom of speech , but let us tell you that the arrest of Arnab Goswami is not for his journalism but because of the re-opening of the Anvay Naik case. Anvay Naik was an architect who committed suicide in 2018 and wrote in his suicide note that he was facing financial crisis because some people were not paying him money. In this note he also wrote the name of Arnab Goswami. Arnab Goswami has been arrested due to the re-investigation of this case. His journalism has nothing to do with this arrest, but before that many such journalists have been arrested or murdered just because of their journalism, there is neither sympathy nor outrage in public for them. Then nobody felt that journalism was in danger or democracy was in danger. Like some journalists whose journalism became the enemy of their lives -

A case was registered against Masrat Jahra under Section 13 of UAPA and Section 505 of IPC at Cyber Police Station of Kashmir Zone. The cyber police station got information from a trustworthy source that a Facebook user 'Masarat Jahra' is making anti-national posts on social media with criminal intent to motivate the youth and promote crimes against public peace. It is believed that these photos of Masrat can incite the public to spoil law and order. Users post praising anti-national activities, later Masrat said -
I have posted most of the links of my work on social media accounts. I am surprised to see these allegations. I am a professional photojournalist. I have no political or social agenda. This is an attempt to suppress the journalists of Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police needs to understand that there is a big difference between journalism and cybercrime. The government has every right to deny and respond to the story of any journalist, but the cases against journalists or their work are illegal and wrong.

ReplyDeletei have not supported the arrest of arnab here, i am just trying to tell that all the journalist should be treated as same as arnab. there is no doubt that some politics is involve in this matter. and maharashtra police seems that they are taking revenge form arnab on the behalf of maharashtra government.
